EMBiz: Should You Text Your Customers?
Should You Text Your Customers
Cody H. Owens
Hi, Cody here, the Content Director at Elevate My Brand. And this video is all about SMS marketing. What is it? And how does it work?
SMS is essentially text message. So SMS marketing is the act of sending those communications to your audience directly to their phone via text message.
What Is SMS Marketing
Now, SMS is a really great tool because not only is it going directly to your customer's pockets, basically because it's going directly to their mobile phone, but it also is a consent-based form of communication, meaning your customers have to opt-in to that information and that communication from you and they are in control about when it starts and stops and often about how much communication they get from you through that channel. So it's a really great way to be able to communicate with your clients or customers.
Why SMS Marketing Works
But best of all, it's also a really high-converting marketing channel. So whereas email, which is a great conversion tool has an average click-through rate of 1 to 10% which is really good. SMS has an average of 20 to 35% click-through rate. That's wild! So it's a really great tool to be able to include calls to action to your customers and clients and to actually convert them.
How SMS Marketing Works
So how does it work? And how do you get started? Well, there are SMS tools and software out there similar to email where you go in and into this tool and you can set up campaigns and messages, they can be triggered by different user actions similar to email. So if they put something in their cart, or if they abandon their cart, they visit your website. If they enter a specific region, there are lots of different ways to target them. And you set up those messages that are automated messages that go out to your customers about sales or other company updates that they get directly into their phone. And so you can use that to be able to engage your customers right where they are and send messages directly into the palm of their hand where they are, where they are.
